What is the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT)?
FCAT aims to advance applications of new technology and media that permeate every facet of contemporary life, enabling new forms of communication, art, and design that are significantly restructuring many aspects of life. In this contemporary future-focused faculty, students and professors will collaborate in innovative research and immersive study.
Choose from one of the schools below. If you are entering directly from high school you will begin your undergraduate degree by starting in the TechOne program. Students interested in the School for the Contemporary Arts (SCA) should contact SCA directly for information about admission and enrollment.
What is TechOne?
TechOne is the first year of a Bachelor degree at Simon Fraser University. As the flagship first year program at SFU Surrey, TechOne is a program for students who are curious about design and technology and the roles they play in the everyday lives of people.
As part of the dynamic TechOne learning community students will enjoy small classes, supportive study groups, the opportunity to develop real world skills on interdisciplinary project teams, and a commitment to the success of every student.
When they finish TechOne, students advance to second year in an array of SFU Bachelor's programs.

School of Interactive Arts & Technology - Exploring ideas at the junction of technology and art, including digital interactive media, knowledge management, human computer interaction, computer games, and technology-based art.

Looking at communication from a critical perspective, specializing in media and culture, technology and society, communication policy, and political economy.
School for the Contemporary Arts (available at Burnaby campus)
The school is committed to the study, production and promotion of contemporary art, offering a dynamic and integrated arts curriculum. Programs in art and culture studies, dance, film, music, theatre, and visual art are focused on developing creative artists and scholars who are equipped to excel in a transforming world.
Publishing Program (available at Vancouver campus)
SFU’s Master of Publishing Program and undergraduate minor form Canada’s premier training ground for publishing professionals. The program integrates advanced industry practice with insights gained from applied research. This innovative program challenges students with dynamic seminar courses and intensive simulation projects. Along with a highly qualified faculty, the program introduces guest experts drawn from publishing firms across Canada into many facets of the program.
